A Group of Freeway Warriors
This last weekend, we made a group activity out of playing Freeway Warrior book 1. Six of us wanted to get together for a little interactive storytelling. So we met up on Zoom.
- I have the gamebook.
- Someone else has a d10.
- A third person made up a character sheet, between what I showed them on camera and described from the book, then managed it.
- Three more people just joined for camera & audio, to help make choices.
I didn’t keep a record of the playthrough, only the ending. We got as far as the outskirts of Fort Worth, where we tried to ram a blockade across a bridge. The flying debris was more than we could handle, and an unlucky dice roll brought us to a tragic ending. Our car was knocked off the road, off the bridge, into the river. Our adventure ended there.
But the important part, was that 6 people had great fun for an hour and a half. Some of them were gamebook fans, others got into it once they picked up on how it worked.
So, give it a try. Become the hero. All you need is a pair of dice, a pencil and paper, and Internet teleconferencing.
